If it is shown that his relationship effected his work then he should resign. However a lot of times the only negative effect something like this has on a politician is the media covering it. I think Bill Clinton would have been able to continue on fine if no one would have made a big deal about his affair.

That is true, but there is a thing called integrity and Bill Clinton and Gov. Sanford have both shown they do not have that by their actions. If you can't remain faithful to your spouse, how can I expect you to remain faithful to me, the taxpayer.

I don't know if there is a connection. None of us remain faithful to everything at all times in our life. But we manage to do the will of God by His grace. I'm just saying that going after these guys for something that we find personally offensive might not be the best route to take.

We may not remain faithful to everything, but most of us will remain faithful to the commitment we make to our spouses. If you can not keep this one simple commitment I am not going to trust you to be faithful to the people who elected you.

Forgot to add that this is a big deal in this case because Sanford ran on the platform of pro-family, pro-marriage. That makes all the difference.
